John Stossel to Speak at May Meeting

THE NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB, INC.
HOSTS JOHN STOSSEL AT MAY GENERAL MEETING

New York, NY - The New York Young Republican Club will hold our May monthly meeting on Thursday, May 17, 2007. The featured speaker will be 20/20 co-anchor John Stossel, who will discuss issues addressed in his recently released book, “Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity: Get Out the Shovel – Why Everything You Know is Wrong.”

In “Myths, Lies and Downright Stupidity,” Stossel expands on his popular 20/20 "Myth" segments. He exposes popular myths purported by media who distort or disregard facts and unearths such truths as: DDT and food irradiation save lives, pesticide residues are relatively harmless, that there is no ‘cancer epidemic’ caused by chemical pollution and that bottled water is not better than tap.

Stossel began his career as a consumer reporter dedicated to protecting and informing consumers. He joined the staff of 20/20 in 1981 and was named co-anchor in 2003. He is also well-known for his thought-provoking one-hour primetime specials. Throughout his career, Stossel has earned 19 Emmy Awards and has been honored five times for excellence in consumer reporting by the National Press Club. He is the author of the bestselling book “Give Me a Break.”
