Bush Bids Farewell

President Bush's farewell address was short, but it hit the right points. There were a couple of sentences that will stick with me for some time.

In the 21st century, security and prosperity at home depend on the expansion of liberty abroad. If America does not lead the cause of freedom, that cause will not be led.

America must maintain our moral clarity.... [G]ood and evil are present in this world, and between the two of them there can be no compromise.... This nation must continue to speak out for justice and truth. We must always be willing to act in their defense -- and to advance the cause of peace.

Rabid opponents will always be quick to hurl insults and invective at the very mention of George W. Bush, but as our president he expressed more courage than they could ever hope to have. No matter what anybody says about the man, I'm glad we had him around when we did.
