The NY Post editorial page calls for an end to the practice of member items following the revelation that Quinn was funneling ‘rainy day’ money to fictitious charity groups.

If there is a strong case for having a slush fund for emergencies, why not lobby harder for it, bring it to the press, get public opinion on your side? If they had to hide it, they clearly didn't have a strong enough case to do it.

Let’s hope that Ted Stevens doesn’t figure out a way to transfer this practice over to Congress.
