Truth hurts, don't it, buddy?

Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp signed a statement today admitting that he lied, lied, lied about the stories that made up his "Baghdad Diarist" column. He detailed U.S. troops committing atrocities in Iraq and generally terrorizing the civilians. His employer, The New Republic, posted a statement on its site that stands by Beauchamp. You should check it soon because I suspect it will be gone before too long.

Stephen Glass passed off fiction for fact at The New Republic a few years back. He knew it was wrong, but he did it to pump himself up. What did Beauchamp really think he was doing aside from needlessly harming the reputation of the fine Army he fights in?
