At Least the Minutemen Haven't Called for the Destruction of Mexico

So, Columbia has uninvited the Minutemen following clashes at last year’s event, yet has invited Iranian President Ahmedinejad to speak, the man wants to wipe Israel off the map, provides support to terrorism and orders the arrest of women not wearing a full enough headscarf. Not surpisingly, there is a lot of outrage against this, even City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has spoken out against it.

The Republican Jewish Coalition is taking action:

Former NYYRC President Weingartner Chosen as 1 of NYC's 40 Under 40!

Former NYYRC President and NYSYR Chairman Jason Weingartner was chosen as one of NYC's top 40 under 40...

http://www.cityhallnews.com/news/127/ARTICLE/1258/2007-09-17.html

Jason Weingartner
Fundraising Consultant, Cathy Blaney & Associates
Former State Chair, New York Young Republicans
Age: 32
Nickname picked: “Gos, an old softball nickname.”

In 1980, five-year-old Jason Weingartner was already in the thick of it, handing out fliers for Ronald Reagan’s presidential bid with his parents in Glendale, Queens. Later on, as an undergraduate at Fordham College, he volunteered for two big GOP races: Rudy Giuliani’s 1993 mayoral run and George Pataki’s 1994 gubernatorial campaign. All his volunteering eventually paid off: an internship at Friends of Pataki, the former governor’s fund raising arm, turned into a paid job. In 2000, Weingartner joined up with the New York State Young Republicans, a small club which at the time had only 12 members. But by 2004, thanks to Weingartner’s organizing efforts, the club had almost 400 dues-paying members. He was voted president and then state chair of the group. This encouraged him to run for national chair of the Young Republican National Forum this past July. Though he lost, and his term with the state association ended in May, Weingartner said he has stayed involved. “Now I’m sort of an elder statesman, but I’m not that old,” he said laughing. “I have more free time to focus on other things,” he said. “Like softball.”

How did your past jobs get you to where you are now?“It helped teach me to be more appreciative of volunteers, who are often overlooked.”

What is the first thing you would bring up on your next job interview?“I would bring up my organizing ability.”Five years from now, how is your mail going to be addressed?“I’m not a big fan of titles. ‘Chairman Weingartner’—I’m not a communist dictator!”

HillaryCare or Not Far Enough?!?!

Democratic Presidential Frontrunner Hillary Clinton came out with what the news is calling a "Long Awaited Universal Healthcare Plan." Hillary announced this in Iowa today and my favorite quote of the day goes like this:

"I'm here today because I believe it is long past time that this nation had an answer... I believe America is ready for change."

Because in 94' the Country wasn't ready according to her NOW...

Under Clinton's plan, families receive tax credits to help pay for coverage, which would limit the premiums to a percentage of a family's income.

Rudy's Campaign immediately came out calling this socialized medicine, rightly saying that it would raise taxes immensely.

Obama is saying she isn't going far enough... of course all within the spin of Hillary is part of the DC problem so she can't fix anything.

It gets better... Edwards' has proposed that if a universal health care plan for all Americans has not been passed by 2009, the President, Congress and all appointees within would lose their coverage.

WHAT DO I THINK?!?! This is the typical Hillary machine... She's seen a ton of flak from the press and the other side of the aisle about her good pal Norman Hsu and his $850,000 that she had to return. Hillary's machine decides to generate some press for her and take the light off Norman. Plain and simple.

Friend of the NYYRC Announces Run for NC House

A friend of the NYYRC and fellow YR from North Carolina, Alan Teitleman, is planning a run for office and while we don't endorse a candidate prior to a primary, I wanted to pass on a recent article on him and his GOP opponent.

So check out Alan and his website: Candidate for NC House District 103 (www.Alan08.com)

NYYRC Meets with the Germans!

Many of you met our friends from Germany at the NYYRC Social last week, at Vintage. Mischa and Friederike are involved with the State of Berlin's Young Republican Organization (I believe the formal name is the Free Democratic Party of Germany) and Mischa is actually their President.

As President's of the NYYRC have done in the past, we met up with our overseas friends for drinks, dinner and discussions last night.

Here's a pic post-din din:

If any of our members plan to head to Germany in the near future, let us know and we can put you in touch with our new found friends!

NY Times Liberal Bias Revealed Once Again

It’s getting harder and harder for the NY Times to claim objectivity – the New York Post has revealed that they gave MoveOn.org more than a $100,000 discount on their ad attacking General Petraeus. Also in the Post today, Ed Koch, who does not support the war but still found the ad repulsive, calls out the Democratic presidential candidates for not condemning the ad.

I’m sure that we can look forward to more immature acts from MoveOn.org as the elections get closer.

Pataki Nominated for UN Post

The NYYRC congratulates former Gov. Pataki, who has been nominated by the White House to serve as a representative to the UN.

NYYRC Social - A Hit?!?!

ter·ror·ism

n. The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons. [or when your party is too loud.]

Last night, the New York Young Republican Club hosted our monthly social at Vintage on 8th Avenue and 50th Street. Vintage is a fantastic, Republican owned bar in Hell’s Kitchen, that boasts New York City’s largest selection of martinis.

The night started off like any other typical YR social – we all congregated in the back area on comfy sofas and lounge chairs and eventually, migrated out to the back patio to enjoy the perfect, 70-degree weather. It was another great success for the YRs; we had a nice mix of regulars, new faces and some old friends we haven’t seen in a long time! Jovial conversations of Labor Day weekend adventures, winter vacation plans, the new shoe department at Saks and of course, the 2008 Presidential election, floated among the circles of guests.

Unfortunately, this did not sit well with a resident of the apartment building next door, whose window faced the open patio area. Around 9.15, we heard a man with a thick accent yelling from a third floor window, telling us to shut up. Most people largely ignored the disgruntled individual yelling and carrying on.

At this point, I mentioned to the manager we had a problem, but the man I shall refer to as the “Party Pooper” had stopped. Unfortunately, about 30 minutes later, the Party Pooper returned carrying on again, this time chock full of racial slurs and foul language. Someone in our crowd finally yelled back and at 9.56 pm, the scene turned from late summer social to the scene with the French knights in the castle from Monty Python and the Holy Grail...and we were the court of King Arthur. All of a sudden, something was lobbed out the window and then, a horrible, foul, putrid stench emerged and everyone ran indoors and into the two restrooms to wash themselves off. (“Run away! Run away!”) I have no idea what was thrown at us, but let’s just say it permeated everything it touched. Several handbags and suits were ruined by the splatter.

Unfortunately, the drama didn’t end there. The manager called the cops. At least two YRs called 911. No one showed. The manager stood outside and waited and waited and waited. No one came. Finally, an hour later, Eric, our general counsel, and I walked to the precinct on 54th Street. Outside, I spoke to an officer who apparently knew about the situation and told me that a police car had just been dispatched. We decided to walk back to Vintage. No car showed. About 5 minutes later, a car came down 8th Avenue, slowed down in front of the restaurant, and as the manager approached the car, it drove off. Eric and I decided to walk back and file a report, just in time for the 11.30 shift change. We sat there with my belongings separated in two plastic bags, the stench emanating from one, as cops filed in. We heard several, “What stinks in here?”-type comments. A report was taken, but the kind gentleman who took it had no power to help us beyond his administrative duties. Our attempt to talk to the desk sergeant didn’t get very far as we were mostly ignored. One officer who listened actually suggested that the Party Pooper probably threw water on us. To this I responded, “Do you smell something strange in here? That’s coming from this plastic bag. Here, smell it and tell me if water smells like that.” Of course, he refused the offer. He then asked if it was a chemical thrown on us. Looking back, I realize that we were asked by more than one officer if we were sprayed with a chemical. Note to self: next time, call 911 screaming chemical attack.

This is an absolute disgrace on the part of the NYPD. I happen to live in the neighborhood, two blocks north of the station. I have always felt a sense of comfort knowing that in an emergency, the police are nearby. Now I have to wonder. More than THREE phone calls were made to the station and TWO 911 calls and there was NO RESPONSE. Talk about adding insult to injury. I feel sorry for the poor boy who had to clean up the patio with plastic gloves on. What would have happened if it really were a caustic chemical? What happened to justice? A group of 30 or 40 people were attacked with a strange substance and no one showed up to even have a look? How many cops are in this city and are they all too busy to check out a real disturbance?

I ask that everyone who reads this call 311 and complain about the disgraceful lack of response from the Midtown North Precinct under Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector William Matusiak.
