Young Republicans Victorious!

The New York Young Republicans conquered the Manhattan Young Democrats at the kickball charity game on Saturday. After rallying back from a 4-3 deficit to tie the game and bring the game into extra innings, the YRs scored two runs in the 10th to secure our victory.

Proceeds raised by our team will go to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

Thank you to everyone who played and to those who came out to support the team.

Dumping on Petraeus

From The New Republic this week: "The Overhyping of David Petraeus". This is a test run of the media attack that will precede the September report by Gen. Petraeus about the surge's progress. The situation in Iraq is undeniably improving and public support is starting to right itself. This is bad news for the Democrats' attempt to fulfill their promise to end the war, regardless of the consequences. So you can expect to see more articles like this in the Times and you can expect to hear more talk show blather about whether we should leave Iraq.

The Democrats are planning to take on the funding issue again, as well. They kept funding for Iraq and Afghanistan out of the recently passed Defense bill because they want to save for themselves another opportunity to pull us out of Iraq. Whether it be defunding the troops in September or putting limitations in place so strict that the successful execution of the mission would be impossible, the fight will continue.

Truth hurts, don't it, buddy?

Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp signed a statement today admitting that he lied, lied, lied about the stories that made up his "Baghdad Diarist" column. He detailed U.S. troops committing atrocities in Iraq and generally terrorizing the civilians. His employer, The New Republic, posted a statement on its site that stands by Beauchamp. You should check it soon because I suspect it will be gone before too long.

Stephen Glass passed off fiction for fact at The New Republic a few years back. He knew it was wrong, but he did it to pump himself up. What did Beauchamp really think he was doing aside from needlessly harming the reputation of the fine Army he fights in?

YRs to Take on YDs in Kickball

THE NEW YORK YOUNG REPUBLICAN CLUB, INC.
TO TAKE ON MANHATTAN YOUNG DEMOCRATS
IN CHARITY KICKBALL GAME

New York, NY - The New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) will take on the Manhattan Young Democrats (MYD) in a game of kickball on Saturday, August 11th to benefit charities of each team’s choice.

NYYRC proceeds will be donated to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which provides support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. Because administrative costs are underwritten by the Fund’s trustees, 100% of donations go towards these programs. MYD proceeds will go to the Council on the Environment.

“It’s great that we can reach across the aisle and put aside our political differences to raise money for charity,” said Lynn Krogh, President, NYYRC. “During the election season, political divisiveness tends to get exaggerated, and with the early start to the 2008 campaign season, we are already beginning to see that. This is an excellent opportunity for members of both clubs to realize that even though they may disagree on certain issues, there may be other issues where they share a common viewpoint and in the end, both sides want what is best for this great Country.”

“That all being said, we plan on trouncing the MYDs in kickball like Reagan trounced Mondale in ’84.”

The game will take place on Saturday, August 11th at 4:30 PM in the Central Park Great Lawn, at Field #3 (between 81st & 85th Streets). The fee is $10 for members and $20 for non-members, with all proceeds going to Intrepid Fallen Heroes. Zog Sports, www.zogsports.org, will donate equipment and umpires for the game.

Rove plays hooky

Karl Rove decided to skip the latest liberal photo-op being held by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and rightly so. Dems accuse him of hiding behind executive privilege, but there is a fair amount of precedent for refusing to testify on such grounds, with both Republican and Democrat administrations falling back on it in times of trouble.

The fact is Democrats foam at the mouth at any opportunity to put Rove on television in a compromising position. They have failed at every turn to let the public see him sweat, but their taste for blood did not go unquenched, as a 29-year-old White House aide did appear before Sen. Patrick Leahy's mob of pitchfork-wielding townsfolk, also known as the Judiciary Committee.

For all the talk about "getting to the bottom" of...something...the Dems don't seem to be making much headway. But true witch hunts never do. The list of conspirators will grow, as will the accusations, and before too long, we'll have forgotten how this whole thing started in the first place. Oh, wait, was it because Bush was reelected in 2004? Or does it have something to do with the Dems winning Congress in 2006? I can never tell.
