Interesting Read on GOP's Youth...

David Frum, former speechwriter and conservative author wrote the following piece and I think it's a great blueprint for up and coming YR Clubs looking to push out their message...

Here in the Blue of the Blue, I think there are points that will certainly resonate.

Candidate for State Senate

JOHN G. CHROMCZAK ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR 25TH STATE SENATE DISTRICT
Announcements scheduled for Wednesday, April 9th in Brooklyn and Manhattan

New York, NY, April 8, 2008 – Downtown Manhattan resident and local medical technologist, John G. Chromczak, will be announcing his Republican candidacy for the 25th district state Senate seat at 11:00 am at Borough Hall in Brooklyn and at noon on the steps of City Hall in Manhattan. John will be making his announcement alongside Jason Weingartner, Executive Director of the NY County Republican Committee and Craig Eaton, Chairman of the Kings County Republican Committee.

John says that once he is elected he will ensure that the issues that matter most to the people of Manhattan and Brooklyn will be heard and addressed in Albany. His campaign will focus on protecting the middle class from rising taxes, supporting the advances that have been made in our public schools, protecting our environment, and bringing jobs back to New York City.

"The challenges of mass transit, rapid growth and congestion in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn need a dynamic and sensitive candidate who can empathize with your average voter in the 25th district. I am that person. I've seen how Albany politics affect our area and I want to ensure that the people in my district have their voices heard. We need to lower taxes and make it less expensive to live and work in New York City," says John G. Chromczak.

John, 38, was born in upstate New York, attended the State University of New York at Potsdam and now works at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center as a licensed medical technologist specializing in bleeding and red cell disorders. He lives in lower Manhattan with his partner Andre.

This is great, a candidate that supports congestion pricing and wants to get Albany out of our city's business!

Absolut Reclaims Southwest US for Mexico

Absolut Vodka has redrawn the US-Mexico border in an ad running in Mexico.

Absolut defended the ad on the corporate blog:
“Obviously, this ad was run in Mexico, and not the US -- that ad might have been very different.”

A company that is dialed into Web 2.0 enough to have a blog should realize that you can’t place an ad in one country that may be offensive to another and not expect that ad to come back to haunt you. Seriously, did they think that Mexico doesn’t have internet access or camera phones?

Here are some Absolut World campaigns that were rejected:

  • States of the Confederacy: Didn’t feel that they could compete with Bud Light for the Nascar demographic.
  • USSR: Litvinenko
  • Hitler’s Germany: Even the dimmest of marketers knows not to go there.
  • Napolean’s Europe: Fear of offending diminutive Italians everywhere.
  • The Holy Roman Empire: Too many papists think that alcohol is a tool of the devil.
  • Empire of Alexander’s the Great: Thought it might be too controversial considering the circumstances of NATO’s veto of Macedonia.

The NY Post editorial page calls for an end to the practice of member items following the revelation that Quinn was funneling ‘rainy day’ money to fictitious charity groups.

If there is a strong case for having a slush fund for emergencies, why not lobby harder for it, bring it to the press, get public opinion on your side? If they had to hide it, they clearly didn't have a strong enough case to do it.

Let’s hope that Ted Stevens doesn’t figure out a way to transfer this practice over to Congress.

This has to be a joke

Heidi Montag of The Hills has officially endorsed McCain.

Is this a plot by the Young Democrats to destroy our credibility?
